Element Fleet Management Corp. has promoted Claire M. Murphy to Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer.

Murphy will sit on the company’s executive leadership team with accountability for a global team of professionals across legal, sustainability, information security, data & analytics and real estate and workplace.

Element is the largest publicly traded, pure-play automotive fleet manager in the world. Murphy joined Element in March 2024 as VP and Assistant General Counsel Leasing, and played an integral role in helping to establish Element’s new leasing centre of excellence in Ireland.

Murphy brings more than 20 years’ experience across legal, sustainability, strategy, and human resources. In her new role, she leads legal and sustainability initiatives, ensuring strategic alignment of Element's legal, regulatory, and governance functions. She also has responsibility for corporate real estate, and protecting Element's data and digital security.

Element CEO Laura Dottori-Attanasio described Murphy as a passionate, meticulous and empathetic leader. “She is a tremendous addition to our global Executive Team, and I am confident she will continue to be an integral partner, driving our organisation towards success and delivering value to our clients, team members, and communities."

“At such a pivotal time for our organisation, I am honoured to step into this new role as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer," Murphy said in a statement. "I look forward to driving forward our legal, sustainability, data, and digital security strategies, while working collaboratively with our talented global team to deliver meaningful impact and continued success."

In a post on LinkedIn, she added: “It has been an exciting first year at Element Fleet Management. I am honoured to take on this new role and am excited about the future, and the opportunity to work with outstanding talent.”

Intelligent mobility solutions for fleets

Element provides a full range of sustainable and intelligent mobility solutions to optimise and enhance fleet performance for clients across North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Its fleet services span vehicle acquisition, maintenance, route optimisation, risk management, and remarketing, to advising on decarbonisation efforts, integration of electric vehicles and managing the complexity of gradual fleet electrification. The company boasts over 4,000 clients and has 1.5 million vehicles under management.

In November, the company announced that its science-based targets had been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a milestone that Element said underscored its commitment to emissions reduction, demonstrating continued leadership in sustainability within the fleet management industry.

These include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions 63.70% by 2034 and cutting Scope 3 emissions intensity from use of sold products and downstream leased assets by 66.40% per value added within the same timeframe, from a 2019 baseline.
